Char Latham
Char was raised in Tucson, AZ, where she worked as a firefighter for
10 years before relocating to Santa Fe in the fall of '05. She
started running with her teacher and a few classmates at recess in
grade school and competed in her first road race at age 9. After
experiencing knee problems and a dislike for the track team idea, she
quit running at age 13 and did not run again until age 27 (if they
only had good shoes and people who knew what they were looking at
back then!) In late 1999, the two other women in our fire department
talked Char into being the runner on a triathlon relay team. She
subsequently fell head over heels into the world of triathlon. With
the focus now on three sports, she has been able to continue to enjoy
running. Char has since taken to long-course triathlon racing,
usually staying true to her motto "I only race in pretty places." her
Half Ironman PR in 2004 of 4:46:38 was the result of an out-of-body
day; and in her only full Ironman to date, she posted a 12:14:33 at
Ironman Canada in 2005. (stay tuned for an addition to the full
Ironman resume later this summer.)
Char has enjoyed her newly created life here in the beautiful high
desert of Santa Fe, where she currently runs her own business as a
personal trainer. She is in the process of building a small triathlon
coaching client base as well.
